Description
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is one of the most powerful and widely used federal education databases in the country — and one of the most underutilized. This four-session course gives novice-to-intermediate researchers, analysts, institutional staff, and policy professionals the hands-on skills to find, access, and use IPEDS data with confidence.
Over four weekly one-hour sessions, you’ll learn the history and structure of IPEDS, explore the Data Center, and work with real data to answer a research question of your own choosing. The course culminates in a short presentation of your findings — so you’ll leave with not just knowledge, but a completed piece of work.
No advanced statistics required. If you can work with a spreadsheet and ask a good question, this course is for you.
What you’ll learn: How IPEDS is organized and why it matters — How to navigate the IPEDS Data Center and download data — How to design a simple research question using IPEDS variables — How to compare institutions, sectors, states, and trends over time. This course is recorded from a recently administered live course and optimized for a recorded delivery.
